JPRD tells upcoming programs

The Jefferson park and recreation department is offering programs for all ages in the weeks ahead.

Art on the Fly – Jolene Peters is bringing Art on the Fly to the Community Center for a winter project. She’s holding a class Monday, Jan. 22, from 1 to 2:30 pm, as there will be no school that day. Any one age kindergarten to a senior in high school can do this project.

Shrine circus – The annual trip to the Shrine Circus is earlier this year, Saturday, Jan. 27. The bus ride and circus are free to patrons thanks to area Shriners donating their tickets.

The bus will depart at 12 pm from the Community Center. Children in fifth grade or younger must be accompanied by a parent or adult chaperone.

Register for transportation at the Community Center. Visit www.zagazigshrine.org/circus for more information about the circus.

Tai chi for beginners – Gail Wittry is starting a new class for those who are new to tai chi. Tai chi improves balance, reduces fear of falling, reduces pain and stress, increases strength, improves functional mobility and flexibility, and increases psychological well-being.

The beginners’ class will meet Thursdays and Saturdays from 9 to 10 am at the Community Center.

Silver Sneakers – The Greene County Community Center was recently approved by Silver Sneakers for membership.

Silver Sneakers is a free fitness program for seniors that’s helping millions of people on Medicare defy the odds, shatter stereotypes and answer every challenge with, “I can do this!” Silver Sneakers includes unlimited access to every participating gym and fitness center in the network. Ask you insurance provider if you qualify.
